Saturday we ride to Welcome Home US Marine Cpl Nelson Acevedo on his route home from Camp Lejeune to his home town of Rocky Point.
The Cpl is driving due to stopping in Maryland to visit the parents of Marine in his Unit who lost his life over in Afghanistan.
He is with the 2-9 and just recently back from Afghanistan last month.
And has received the Navy / Marine Corps Commendation w/ Combat "V". for saving life of another Marine
 
Date: Saturday March 5th, 2011
 
Staging as follows: (RC Frank Bania)
Suffolk: KSU 1125 hrs Patchogue - Bagel Lovers, Sunrise Hwy (best buy/bobs shopping center)
Nassau: KSU 1215 hrs Valley Stream - State Police Barrack, Southern State Pkwy
Queens: KSU 1235 hrs  Jamaica - Burger King,  Rockaway Blvd Exit off Belt Parkway
 
We will be meeting the Cpl at the Grover Cleveland rest stop on the northbound side between exits 11 & 12 (milemarker 92.9)
And then Escorting to the Rocky Point VFW Hall
 
Additional Stage has been added to meet us on way back into NY

Suffolk: KSU 1430 hrs  Bayshore - Peter Pan Diner, Sunrise Hwy
Nassau: Staging 1530 hrs, Valley Stream Police Barracks, EASTBOUND SIDE
This stage will wait for us to ride thru. We will pull into the rest stop on our route back with the Cpl to meet up with this group
 
My tentative route home at this time is:
Veranzzano bridge to Belt to Southern state to Sag to LIE to William Floyd to 25A
Due to traffic conditions a timeline cannot be in place
 
Anyone with any LEO contacts please contact me so we can coordinate some help on the roads.
I would also like to have members who wont be on the escort assemble at the Rocky Point VFW (5pm might be a safe guess-timate of time)
If you would like to plan some type of flag line or Fire Dept Flag Arch somewhere along the route please contact me to coordinate.
I will be on channel 11 (CB)
 
Please be fueled up! Be mindful of sand & potholes on the road!
EZ-passes if you have them (if not, please break away early enough to get thru pay tolls quickly)
Give your bike and the bike parked next to yours a complete look-over prior to starting off that morning

On Saturday afternoon we will be escorting US Marine Cpl Nelson Acevedo on his route home from Camp Lejeune to his home town of Rocky Point.
The Cpl is driving due to the fact he is visiting the parents of Marine in his Unit who lost his life over in Afghanistan.
We will be meeting the Cpl at a NJ Tpke rest stop at roughly 1400 hrs
Details and local staging's will be posted  Friday.
