16th Annual Trees for Troops Operation Holiday Cheer
Oceanside, NY - 12/09/2019
|Mission applies to the following Region(s):||Region 8, Region 9|
|About the Mission:||DHL is teaming up with Dees’ Nursery and the New York community to donate and deliver 500 Christmas trees and thousands of holiday letters, menorahs, decorations and gifts to US servicemen and women serving their country abroad through the ‘DHL Operation Holiday Cheer’ charitable program. Now in its 16th consecutive year, the program has donated and delivered more than 11,000 trees to the troops over the years.
DHL and Dees’ Nursery are hosting a celebratory send-off at the Long Island-based nursery to ensure the items get to the US troops in Afghanistan, Kuwait and Bahrain in time for the holidays. The donated items and letters will then be loaded onto an aircraft at the DHL gateway facility at JFK.
10:00 a.m. Festivities begin at Dees’ Nursery
11:15 a.m. Motorcade to JFK
12:00 noon: Tree Loading and “Send Off” at DHL JFK: A procession of local police departments arrive at DHL’s JFK gateway with the shipment of trees, holiday items and thousands of letters for US troops serving in the Middle East. The shipment will be loaded by DHL employees, VFW, military and law enforcement personnel and members of the community.
Local community and veterans groups, schools and Nassau County dignitaries will help send off the shipment of holiday cheer – with a visit from Santa himself bearing even more gifts from DHL and a performance by the USO Show Troupe.
Members of the media may capture video and still footage of the loading of the trees onto a DHL-branded aircraft as well as another appearance from Santa, this time in a DHL helicopter. The shipment of trees and holiday items will lift off that evening for the Middle East.
