ABOUT THE MISSION:
Joseph D. Phillips, 33, died unexpectedly on August 8, 2017. He was born on September 28, 1983 in Savanna, GA and was raised in the Poughkeepsie area. He was a 2002 graduate of Arlington High School, attended Richmond University, and received his Master's Degree from St. Leo University.
Sgt. 1st Class Phillips proudly served our country in the US Army from 2004 until his retirement in 2011, and had served in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait during Operating Enduring Freedom. As a decorated soldier, Joseph was the recipient of many awards and medals including the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War of Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Marksmanship Qual Badge, and Driver and Mechanic Badge. He was also a proud member of the Audy Murphy Club.
The family has asked that we honor Joseph with a flag line and escort to his resting place.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 6-8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11 am at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, 16 Smith Street, Poughkeepsie followed by burial at Wappingers Rural Cemetery with military honors.
