Narrative:
Sal was born on October 27, 1923 in Albany, NY. A member of our Nation’s Greatest Generation, Sal was a proud veteran of the United States Navy during World War II. He was a survivor of Iwo Jima and completed 18 invasions aboard the USS Humphreys (APD-12), a Clemson Class Destroyer. For his service, Sal was awarded the Bronze Star, US Navy Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 4 stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 stars.  During his service, he attained the rank of Signalman 1st Class (SM1).

Sal was a World Champion Skeet Shooter, trained bird dogs, was a gifted artist and painter, and had a passion for the outdoors.  He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

The Patriot Guard Riders are proud to be able to stand for the life and service of Mr. Salvatore J. Fiato, another Greatest Generation Hero.
