ABOUT THE MISSION:
The family of Stephen Paul Surin has requested Patriot Guard Riders presence at his military honors funeral services. Stephen Paul Surin 47, passed away at his home on Thursday April 27th in Ft Pierce, Florida.
Born on February 22, 1970, Stephen was a 1988 graduate of Mohonasen High School in Rotterdam, NY.
A former president of the Draper and Mohonasen Choirs, Stephen played Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball and coached his daughter’s softball team. He was devoted to his 3 children and his granddaughter and he enjoyed golfing and fishing with his family. A former employee of Campbell Plastics in Schenectady, Stephen went on to work as a sales associate for Grander in Albany, Marrifield and Richmond. Stephen was also a member of the VFW and the American Legion Posts in Virginia and was a recipient of the Wounded Warrior Project.
Stephen served in the US Army from 1998 to 2014. His MOS was 88K20 – Watercraft Operator. During that period, he earned the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (2nd Award), the National Defense Service Medal W/Bronze Service Star, the South West Asia Service Medal W/Three Bronze Service Stars, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/Device (2nd Award, the Kuwait Liberation Medal, the Expert Marksman Badge w/Grenade Bar, the Expert Marksmanship Badge w/Rifle Bar, and the Army Lapel Pin. Stephen was Honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant (E-5).
