Welcome Home MissionReturn of D-Day Veterans
USA, USN - WWII
Albany, New York - 09 Jun 2017
ABOUT THE MISSION:
The Patriot Guard Riders have been requested to welcome home two D-Day Veterans from their trip overseas to England and France.
The organization D-Day Re-Visited UK hosted United States D-Day veterans Ralph Avery/Navy and Robert Howard/Army as special guests for their return pilgrimage back to Normandy. It was an opportunity for the veterans to revisit the beaches and surrounding areas where they fought and to pay tribute to those who gave their lives for freedom in 1944.
On the journey the group of veterans, 33 British and our 2 American, started in Portsmouth UK to visit the navel base and Southwick House where the Allied Forces planned the invasion. After ferrying to France, over the course of several days, they visited all 5 beaches, the American, British, Canadian and German cemeteries and several museums dedicated to D-Day and WWII. While traveling through the towns along the beaches, the veterans were the guests of several mayors and attended lunches and dinners in their honor and will spent an afternoon with French school children.
The pilgrimage was a difficult journey, filled with emotion and memories. Both of Ralph and Robert have traveled to Washington DC to visit the monuments, it was a special honor to return to Normandy with a group of their brothers in arms from the Allied forces.
Let's be there to Welcome Home to the Land of the Free.
