ABOUT THE MISSION:
The family of Thomas L Costanzo Jr. has requested the participation of the Patriot Guard Riders in his calling hours and military honors funeral.
Narrative:
Tom proudly served in the Unites States Marine Corps in the 11th Engineer Battalion, Third Marine Division earning the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one star, Combat Action Ribbon, Rifle Marksman Badge and Vietnam Campaign Medal with device. He was honorably discharged on May 6, 1970.
Tom has worked for several area Police Departments including the Saratoga County Sheriff's Department, Village of Schuylerville, Stillwater, Lake George, Fort Edward, Hudson Falls and South Glens Falls.
In 1980 he began a career dedicated to serving fellow veterans as an employment specialist for the US Department of Labor. In 1989 he accepted the position of Benefits coordinator with the NYS Division of Veterans Affairs, and was very involved with creating housing for homeless veterans and helped to establish the Veteran Apartments at Northern Pines in Wilton and the Ballston Spa Rural Preservation Company. He also played a part in acquiring the land for the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
He received a number of awards including a certificate of accomplishment from the US Department of Labor for "Foremost Disabled Outreach Program Specialist in his job service district, a Certificate of Appreciation from the NYS Department of Labor for Initiative and Dedication to the service of incarcerated veterans as well as certificates of appreciation for his loyalty and dedication from the Saratoga County Vietnam Veterans, the American Legion Post #70 and the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors.
Tom was a selfless man, always available for anyone who needed him. He served his community as well as our nation. He received citations and awards for various selfless acts including preforming the Heimlich maneuver on a fellow police office who was choking as well as for entering a burning building several times to evacuate its occupants.
The Patriot Guard will be there to render Honor, Dignity, and Respect for the life and service of Cpl.Thomas L Costanzo Jr.
