About the Mission: The family of MCPO Richard T. Johnston has requested Patriot Guard Rider participation in his military honors funeral services. Master Chief Johnston, 74, passed on September 2, 2020.

Master Chief Johnston served in the United States Navy for over 24 years between 1962 and 1986. He served as a Machinist Mate Master Chief (MMCM) aboard the USS La Salle (AGF-3), a Raleigh-class amphibious transport dock, and also spent over 7 years as a Navy Recruiter Canvasser.

Honorably discharged at the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9), he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Fifth Good Conduct Award, Battle "E", Meritorious Unit Commendation, Second Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal.

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:
IMPORTANT

The Mandatory Rules for Covid-19 protection practices...these WILL be strictly enforced.

  • Stay a minimum of 6 feet apart from each other at all times.
  • No handshaking, fist-bumping, hugs, cheek kissing or any other physical contact.
  • Follow all Covid-19 protection practices as described on the CDC website.

  • If you are not feeling well in any way, please do not attend this Mission.
  • * ADDITIONAL MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Wearing a protective face covering of some kind is required...homemade facemask, bandanna, etc. (Patriotic face coverings would be particularly appropriate) This will not only provide an extra layer of protection to ourselves and others, but will send the message that the PGR takes this crisis seriously and is performing this Mission responsibly.
Special Information: Staging at the funeral home with a flag line during the last portion of visitation hours of 11:30 am - 1:00 pm. Following a dignified transfer, members will escort to Saratoga National Cemetery for interment with military honors.

Second Stage - Special Information: Interment with military honors scheduled for 2:00 pm. Members arriving early are asked to form a flag line at the front gate for the arrival of the funeral cortege.
