About the Mission: The family of John Joseph Fitzgerald has requested Patriot Guard Rider participation in his military honors funeral services. John, 83, passed on Saturday, May 16, 2020.

Born in Albany, Joe left high school early and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving honorably from August 30, 1954 to August 29, 1957. He was trained as a Teletype Operator (MOS 711.10) and was honorably discharged at the rank of Specialist 3rd Class. For his service, he was awarded the US Army Good Conduct Medal.

Upon his discharge Joe enrolled in Cardinal McCloskey High School in Albany, graduating with honors and a full scholarship to Siena College in Loudonville, NY. Joe worked as a research biologist for Sterling Winthrop Research Institute in East Greenbush, NY for 30 years, then took on a second career working security at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany until his retirement last year.

  • * ADDITIONAL MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Wearing a protective face covering of some kind is required...homemade facemask, bandanna, etc. (Patriotic face coverings would be particularly appropriate) This will not only provide an extra layer of protection to ourselves and others, but will send the message that the PGR takes this crisis seriously and is performing this Mission responsibly.
Special Information: Staging at the funeral home with a flag line for the arrival of family and guests. There will be a funeral service at 10:30 AM, followed by dignified transfer and escort to St. Agnes Cemetery, 48 Cemetery Ave., Menands, NY 12204.
