About the Mission: The family of George Doakmajian, Jr. has requested Patriot Guard Rider participation in his military honors funeral services. George, 86, died Saturday, February 22, 2020.

From Troy, NY, George entered the United States Navy on 9 February, 1953 at the age of 19. He was trained as an Interior Communications Electrician, and served aboard the USS Midway (CV-41), an aircraft carrier commissioned just one week after the end of WWII. George spent 3 years and 1 month on active duty and was honorably discharged at the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class (E-4). For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal (E).

George was a lifetime member of the Wynantskill Volunteer Fire Department and Lifetime member of the Kiwanis Club. He owned several businesses including Doakmajian Insurance Agency and Village Discount Wine and Liquor. He was able to participate in the Leatherstocking Honor Flight in 2019, which he said was one of the most wonderful experiences he ever had.

Special Information: Staging at he funeral home with flag line during visitation hours of 09:00 - 11:30. Funeral service will begin at 11:30, followed by interment with military honors at Elmwood Hill Cemetery, 51 Belle Ave, Troy, NY 12180
