About the Mission: The family of Samuel Eli Rounds has requested Patriot Guard Rider participation in his military honors funeral services. Samuel, 75, passed on December 21, 2019.

Born in Troy, Samuel was a graduate of Catholic Central High School and earned an Associates Degree from Hudson Valley Community College. He had resided in the Troy and Wynantskill areas all his life. He entered the Army in October of 1965 and after completing his first tour, reenlisted on 27 February 1968.

He received training as an Engineering Equipment Repair Supervisor (MOS 62B40) and was assigned to Company B, 5th Special Forces Group, Airborne, First Infantry, Vietnam. He was wounded during a mortar and ground attack while moving his platoon leader to safety, receiving 24 shrapnel wounds in the process. For his service, Samuel was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star w/V Device, two Purple Hearts, several Air Medals, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Ribbon, and Vietnam Campaign Ribbon. He was honorably discharged on 1 October 1970 at the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6).

Sam was owner and operator of Beachcomber Pools in Wynantskill for 18 years and previously worked as a Rensselaer County Deputy Sheriff for 10 years.  He also worked at the Watervliet Arsenal in cannon manufacturing for 10 years.

Special Information: Staging at the funeral home with a dignified flag line during visitation hours of 3:00 PM - 5:45 PM. Military honors and funeral services to follow at 6:00 PM. Interment will take place at Saratoga National Cemetery in the Spring.
