Born in Albany, Bob was educated in Albany Schools.  Like many of his colleagues, he served in WWII when he was inducted into the United States Army Air Corps on 13 January 1944.  He was trained as an Aerial Engineer/Gunner, and assigned to the 74th Bombardment Squadron, 6th Bombardment Group at Albrook Field, Panama.
