About the Mission: The family of Richard L. Nirschl has requested Patriot Guard Rider participation in his military honors funeral services. Richard, 76, formerly of the Cobleskill area, passed away Monday, September 28th in St. Johnsville where he had resided since 2016.

Born in Cobleskill, NY, Richard attended Sharon Springs School, and later, enlisted in the US Army. He served during the Vietnam War as a Paratrooper from 1965 until his honorable discharge in 1967 at the rank of Private First Class.

After he returned home to his native Schoharie County, Rich worked for Roger Becker and later, Guilford Mills in Cobleskill before retiring. He was a proud veteran, patriotic, and supported other veterans to the extent that he could.

  • * ADDITIONAL MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Wearing a protective face covering of some kind is required...homemade facemask, bandanna, etc. (Patriotic face coverings would be particularly appropriate) This will not only provide an extra layer of protection to ourselves and others, but will send the message that the PGR takes this crisis seriously and is performing this Mission responsibly.
Special Information: Staging at the funeral home with a flag line for the dignified transfer. Escort a short distance to Cobleskill Rural Cemetery at approximately 11:00 am for 11:30 interment services.
