|About the Mission:||The family of Mr. Patrick G. Rhatigan has requested Patriot Guard Rider participation in his military honors funeral services. Mr. Rhatigan, 68, passed on Tuesday, March 5, 2019.
Patrick enlisted in the US Navy in Queens, NY on January 27, 1969. After training, he was assigned to the USS Floyd B. Parks (DD-884), a Gearing-class destroyer. During 1969/1970, Floyd B. Parks served as plane guard for aircraft carriers on Yankee Station in the Tonkin Gulf, participated in Operation Sea Dragon, patrolled on search and rescue duties, and carried out naval gunfire support missions. For his service, Patrick received the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on October 9, 1970 at the grade of Seaman Apprentice (E-2).
After the War, he worked at, and retired from the Long Island Railroad.
