About the Mission:

Patriot Guard Riders has been invited to stand in honor of the life and service of Guy F. Rappold at his military honors funeral services. Mr. Rappold, 93 of Castleton-on-Hudson, passed away at home on March 9, 2023.

A lifelong resident of Castleton-on-Hudson, Mr. Rappold proudly served in the United States Navy for 25 years between 1947-1972. His service spanned the post-WWII occupation period through the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He served aboard many ships and lived in many different places during his time in the Navy. He retired with the rank of Chief Petty Officer (E-7) from Pensacola, Fla., with a rating of Aviation Machinist Mate, on 21 April 1972. A partial listing of his awards and ribbons includes; US Navy Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation w/3 Bronze Stars, Navy Good Conduct Medal w/1 Silver and 3 Bronze Stars, China Service Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal w/European and Japanese Clasp, National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Korean Service Medal.

Mr. Rappold was a 70-year member of the Gerald O'Neil American Legion Post in Rensselaer, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Alberta, Ala. He recently joined the Peter Andrews Castleton Memorial VFW Post in Castleton, and was looking forward to participating in their events. Mr. Rappold also enjoyed delivering food for the Regional Food Bank for over 10 years.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

Staging at the funeral home with a flag line during the last hour of Visitation, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm. After the funeral service, members will escort to Mountainview Cemetery, Castleton-on-Hudson for interment with military honors.
