About the Mission: The family of Edward J. Delehanty III has requested Patriot Guard Rider participation in his military honors funeral services. Edward, 88, passed on Saturday, November 14, 2020.

Born in Albany, Ed graduated from Vincentian Academy in 1950. He then went on to attend Champlain College from 1950-1953, and then Syracuse University from 1953-1955 where he received his bachelors degree. He entered the US Army on January 17, 1956, and was trained as a Military Intelligence Specialist. He went on to serve a year and a half in Germany and was honorably discharged on January 6, 1958 at the rank of Specialist 3rd Class. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

After his discharge, Ed worked in construction equipment sales, then became a real estate agent and continued in that until retiring from Prudential Manor Homes. Ed was a member of the S. W. Pitts Hose Company and a member of the Latham Fire Department's "Old Timers Club" with 48 years of service. He was an EMT within the first class offered in the Town of Colonie. He was also a member of the National Ski Patrol Team, and SPEBSQSA barber shop singing and the Uncle Sam Chorus. He was a communicant of Our Lady of The Assumption Church in Latham.

  • * ADDITIONAL MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Wearing a protective face covering of some kind is required...homemade facemask, bandanna, etc. (Patriotic face coverings would be particularly appropriate) This will not only provide an extra layer of protection to ourselves and others, but will send the message that the PGR takes this crisis seriously and is performing this Mission responsibly.
Special Information: Staging at the funeral home with flag line for the arrival of family and guests. Following dignified transfer, members will escort to Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham, New York for 10:00 am Funeral Mass. Upon completion of church services, members will escort to Saratoga National Cemetery for interment with military honors.

Second Stage - Special Information: Interment with military honors scheduled for 12:30 pm. Members arriving early are requested to stand a flag line at the main entrance for the arrival of the funeral cortege.
