About the Mission: The family of Dr. James "Jim" Leo Manning has requested Patriot Guard Rider participation in his military honors funeral services. Dr. Manning, 81, passed on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at home.

Born in Auburn, NY, Jim joined the United States Navy after high school on September 12, 1956. He completed US Navy Airman "P" School training on July 26, 1957, and Aviation Fire Control Technician "A" School on May 2, 1958. Jim was later assigned to the USS Intrepid (CVA-11), an Essex-class aircraft carrier known as the Fighting "I", where he held the rating of AQB3, Aviation Fire Control Technician (Bomb Director). He served 2 years and one month at sea, and was honorably discharged at the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class (E-4).

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:
IMPORTANT

The Mandatory Rules for Covid-19 protection practices...these WILL be strictly enforced.

  • Stay a minimum of 6 feet apart from each other at all times.
  • No handshaking, fist-bumping, hugs, cheek kissing or any other physical contact.
  • Follow all Covid-19 protection practices as described on the CDC website.

  • * ADDITIONAL MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Wearing a protective face covering of some kind is required...homemade facemask, bandanna, etc. (Patriotic face coverings would be particularly appropriate) This will not only provide an extra layer of protection to ourselves and others, but will send the message that the PGR takes this crisis seriously and is performing this Mission responsibly.
Special Information: Interment with military honors scheduled for 2:30 PM. There will be no funeral procession as the family is meeting at the cemetery. PGR members should stage at the parking area of the Interment Shelter not in use that day and await instruction by the LRC for the formation of the flag line.

Please note that all services at the cemetery are subject to the guidelines of the New York Reopening Plan, Phase 4 which limits the number of attendees at events to 50. All RC's are responsible for ensuring that all PGR members adhere to the mandatory COVID-19 requirements for face covering and social distancing at all times prior to, during and after the mission.  These requirements must be adhered to.
