About the Mission: The family of CMSgt. John W. Chomycz has requested Patriot Guard Rider participation in his military honors funeral services. John, 75, passed on June 4, 2021.

Born in Wiloflecken, Germany, John proudly served our country with the US Army during the Vietnam era. Enlisting on September 4, 1964, he worked as a Topological Surveyor (MOS 82D2L), and spent 2 ½ years in Stuttgart, Germany. He was honorably discharged on August 16, 1967 at the rank of Specialist 5th Class.

Upon returning home, John continued his service with the Air National Guard, serving until his retirement at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant on September 20, 2002. For his service, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award w/4 devices, National Defense Service Medal w/1 device, Army Service Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon (Rifle), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award w/1 device.

John was a devoted and active parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Troy, he enjoyed volunteering his time to any function or activity involving the church.

  • While in any outdoor setting, fully vaccinated PGR members will no longer be required to wear masks but are asked to act responsibly and respect your fellow members decision on this issue. For the protection of others, non-vaccinated members are asked to please wear a mask.
  • For the immediate future, all PGR members will continue to wear masks and social distance while indoors during a mission.
  • Masks will be worn at any other location where organizers, requestors or the Lead Ride Captain has determined that this be done.
  • Going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please respect the LRC’s decision on these matters.

Special Information: Staging at the funeral home with a flag line for the dignified transfer. Escort to Sacred Heart Church, 310 Spring Ave, Troy, NY 12180, for a 10:00 am funeral service. Upon conclusion of church services, members will escort to Saratoga National Cemetery for interment with military honors.

Second Stage - Special Information: Interment with military honors scheduled for 12:30 pm. There is a service scheduled for 12:00 pm, so members arriving early should have enough time to form a flag line at the main entrance for the arrival of the cortege. If the procession has not arrived by 12:20 pm, members should proceed directly to staging to set the flag line. If the 12:00 service has not ended, riders should hold at the Stratton Memorial until such time as the service ends.
