|About the Mission:||The family of Alson P. Hunter has requested Patriot Guard Rider participation in his military honors funeral services. Alson, 93, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 12, 2020.
Alson attended Troy schools and Lansingburgh High. He enlisted in the United States Navy on April 24, 1944, just one week after turning 17. He was assigned to LST-220, an LST-1 Class Tank Landing Ship. He was honorably discharged on June 16, 1945 from injuries sustained while serving. He was discharged at the rank of Seaman 2nd Class, and was the recipient of the Purple Heart.
Alson later spent 27 years building a career in Law Enforcement. He was the first City of Cohoes Motor Officer, served as an Albany County Deputy Sheriff, Albany County DA Detective, and Town of Greenwich Chief of Police. He was a member of the Law Enforcement Officers Society of the State of New York, the Police Holy Name Society and the Chester Carknard VFW Post of Valley Falls, NY. He enjoyed spending time with his entire family, driving limo, and snow birding in Florida. Alson traveled to Washington, DC with the Fall 2019 Honor Flight, and was very much impressed with the Patriot Guard Rider escort that the veterans received.
