For far too many of our service men and woman the stresses of military service don't necessarily end when they return from the battlefield or return to civilian life. The sacrifices these men, woman and their families have made are difficult to measure but what we are seeing more and more of are military families struggling to adjust to altered life circumstances in an economy that may not value their sacrifice. There are current war veterans among us that are finding it hard to feed their families and keep a roof over their heads. This should not be happening in the communities we live and work in - not to men and woman who put their lives on hold - to fight our enemies while "America was at the Mall".
The Patriot Guard Riders of New York through their Help On the Homefront (HOTH) program raises funds that are then used to pay some expenses of military/veterans families in need. The HOTH program has literally been a financial lifeline for many of these struggling families. The demand is such that our program runs the risk of running out of funds to support these families - we can't let that happen.
This is the very first motorcycle run the Patriot Guard Riders / Help On The Homefront have put on in the Capital District area and for a very worthy cause - generating funds - 100% of which will be used to financially help out those military families struggling to make ends meet in this challenging economy.
Part of the run will involve a Patriot Guard Riders remembrance service being conducted at the Saratoga National Cemetery - Gold Star families of the fallen will be present to lay our wreath at these ceremonies. Let's be there to show them we haven't forgotten the ultimate sacrifice their sons and daughters have made in defense of freedom.
I know there are many rides one can participate in on any given weekend - let's make May 21st OUR RIDE!!
Long range forecast is for comfortable temperatures and a bright sunny day.. so spread the word far and wide to all that you know - please consider joining us so that we can continue to help ease the burden these military families are facing - to show our war veterans our appreciation for their service and sacrifice - they stepped up when the call went out - we need to do likewise.
