Honor Mission

Sean Young-Welch, Active Duty

USN

Buffalo, New York - 06 Jul 2017

ABOUT THE MISSION:

We have been requested to stand in Honor of the Naval Service of Sean Young-Welch, who tragically passed away on June 27th as a result of a motorcycle accident on Marine Base Camp Lejeune, NC. HM3 Young-Welch was a Special Amphibious Recon Corpsman imbedded with the 2nd Marine Recon Battalion. The following information is provided by the Funeral Director via the U.S. Navy:
Petty Officer 3rd Class Sean W. Young-Welch first joined the Navy as an undesignated Deck Seaman, initially stationed on LHD-8, the USS Makin, where he also qualified and served as a Search and Rescue (SAR) Swimmer, a very challenging lifesaving duty. While on the USS Makin, then Seaman Young-Welch screened for and was accepted to the Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman (SARC) training pipeline. In one of the smaller communities in the Navy, SARCs serve as integral team-members with elite Marine Corps Reconnaissance and Raider units, providing combat trauma medical treatment as well as all other aspects of medical care. The training includes some of the most challenging and arduous schools the military offers, to include Basic Reconnaissance Course (BRC) at Camp Pendleton CA, Marine Combat Diver as well as Diving Medicine, both at Navy Diving and Salvage Training Center (NDSTC) in Panama City FL. It also includes two Army schools: Basic Airborne at Ft. Benning GA, and the Special Operations Combat Medic (SOCM) at the Joint Special Operation Medical Training Center (JSOMTC) Ft. Bragg NC. Sean graduated this two year pipeline and reported to 2nd Marine Reconnaissance Battalion, Camp Lejeune on June 17th. At 2d Recon he was serving as a SARC and was already scheduled for a short deployment to South America as well as follow-up training.
Sean was Surface Warfare qualified and his awards include:
Navy “E”, Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy Rifle Expert, and Navy Pistol Expert.
