About the Mission:

The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to stand for and honor active duty United States Marine Lance Corporal Joseph Paul Calkins.  Joseph, 20, of Addison, NY passed away tragically on Tuesday, July 7, 2020.

Born in Corning, New York, Joseph was a 2017 graduate of Addison Central School, where he was inducted into the National Honor Society. He attended Criminal Justice, and joined the Marine Corps with early entry in 11th grade. He was active duty, stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC with the 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion. Throughout his journey Joe received the following ribbons and medals; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Korean Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Joseph will be arriving home at the Rochester International Airport where PGR members will stand and honor him as he passes through the gate, then escort him to the funeral home in Addison, NY.

  • * ADDITIONAL MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Wearing a protective face covering of some kind is required...homemade facemask, bandanna, etc. (Patriotic face coverings would be particularly appropriate) This will not only provide an extra layer of protection to ourselves and others, but will send the message that the PGR takes this crisis seriously and is performing this Mission responsibly.
Special Information:

Gate 5 should be accessed from Scottsville Rd. and through the tunnels with Gate 5 being about 1/4 mile past the tunnel on the left.  Those that arrive at Gate 5 please be aware once you leave your vehicle/motorcycle you must have your mask fully secured over your mouth and nose.  There are no exceptions.  It will be enforced. No physical contact as per our guidelines. Please review our website for picture protocols. Once a flag line is assembled, absolutely no photographs.  Any photographs that are taken using PGR website protocols and posted on social media must NOT include this Marine's name.

I plan to escort to Addison, NY. There will be LEO the entire way. We have a threat of severe weather with high winds and hail. If nothing else, I need membership at the gate. I will be watching the radar for possible last minute abort of the escort, partial escort or commit the entire route.

Second Stage - Special Information:

PGR members will stand a flag line for the dignified transfer, then escort 1 mile to Addison Rural Cemetery for a graveside service with full military honors. There is a park across from the funeral home. Please do your best to park as close to the funeral home at the park until we can asses the logistics for the escort.

I will be leaving home in Greece, NY at 7:45 am approx and stop at the gas station on Lehigh Station Rd just off exit 12 B RT 390. Anyone wishing to travel to the funeral Home together, please meet there. KSU at 8:25 and travel South on Rt 390 to Campell, NY, exit 41.  Taking Rt 333 (main St.) which changes to Rt 1 all the way to the Funeral Home.

Any Captain coming from a different area and wishes to post please feel free to add on.

From SRC Don Higgins, I-390 Exit 5 (Dansville Truck Stop) We will wait in between the southbound exit/on ramp to join in with Nigel's contingent. Please be prepared for KSU any time after 9:00 AM.
Please ensure your fuel tank is topped off.
Please ensure your large flags are very securely attached.

Weather looks good for us but will be hot. Please bring water and a Clean 3x5 flag.
Masks and distancing are mandatory all Captains in NYS have been advised not to relax our protocols.
