About the Mission:

The Patriot Guard Riders have been requested to stand in Honor of the life and service of William H. "Woody" Woodruff of Lakeville, who passed away on 9 March 2020.

Mr. Woodruff served a total of 6 years, 8 months from 1956-1962 on active duty in the U.S. Navy as a Boiler Technician (BT), including 4 years of sea service duty aboard the Fletcher-class destroyers USS Cony (DDE-508) and USS Kidd (DD-661.) Mr. Woodruff was Honorably Discharged from active duty on 2 October 1962 with the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class.

The following is from the KH Dougherty Funeral Home obituary:
"Lakeville: March 9, 2020, at age 81. Woody was born on August 14, 1938, in Rochester, NY to the late Theodore and Grace (Tanner) Woodruff. Predeceased by son Scott in 2014 and daughter Michelle in 2019. Survived by his wife of 25 years Laura Woodruff; daughter Cheryl (Steve) Baker of Rochester and son Thomas Newcomb (Lois Baker) of Hornell; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and his beloved pets Muffin Man and Mitsy.

Woody attended Livonia Central School District.  After his time in the Navy, he returned to Lakeville, NY, and for many years worked as a roofer for several contracting companies. The most recent was Finger Lakes Roofing in Fishers, NY."

  • * ADDITIONAL MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Wearing a protective face covering of some kind is required...homemade facemask, bandanna, etc. (Patriotic face coverings would be particularly appropriate) This will not only provide an extra layer of protection to ourselves and others, but will send the message that the PGR takes this crisis seriously and is performing this Mission responsibly.
Special Information:

Flag Line for the arrival of family and friends.
Calling Hours from 2:00 - 4:00 PM.
Memorial Service with Military Honors at 4:00 PM.
There is no cemetery or escort involved in this Mission.
Please arrive with a clean 3x5 American or U.S. Navy flag, and dress for the weather.
Please be prepared to comply with all PGRNY and local protocol and requirements for social distancing and face covering.
