About the Mission: The Patriot Guard Riders have been requested to stand in honor of the life and service of Joseph L. Bittar of Williamsville, NY who passed away on 27 April 2021.

Some of the military documents are difficult to read, but we know the following for sure: Mr. Bittar served in the US Navy at the end of WW-II for 7 months in 1946, and was honorably discharged with the rating of Seaman 2nd Class. He then served 3 years on active duty in the US Army from 1951-1954, including 25 months in Korea. His MOS was Truck Driver (Heavy), and he was attached to an Engineer Construction Battalion. Mr. Bittar was honorably discharged on 1 September 1954 with the rank of Sergeant (E-5), and he earned the following awards: National Defense Service Medal, Korea Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal-Korea, and Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.

Special Note: We are told that Mr. Dittar was extremely proud of his military service, and was a very Patriotic American. Mr. Bittar admired the performance of the PGR, and he made it known how much he would like to be escorted to the cemetery by the PGR.

  • ** ADDITIONAL MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Wearing a protective face covering of some kind is required...homemade face-mask, bandanna, etc. (Patriotic face coverings would be particularly appropriate) This will not only provide an extra layer of protection to ourselves and others, but will send the message that the PGR takes this crisis seriously and is performing this Mission responsibly.
Special Information: The PGR will stage at the funeral home in preparation for an escort to the WNY National Cemetery, 1254 Indian Falls Rd, Corfu, NY 14036.
KSU by 9:45 AM. Length of escort is approx. 25 miles.
Interment with military honors is scheduled for 11:00 AM, with arrival at the cemetery by 10:45 AM.
Please arrive with a clean 3x5 American, U.S. Navy, or U.S. Army flag, dress for the weather, and ensure your large flags are securely attached.
If you are unable to participate in the escort from Amherst, please consider staging in Pembroke (see Second Stage information.)
