James P. O'Connor
US Navy - Vietnam Era Veteran

About the Mission: The Patriot Guard Riders have been requested to stand in honor of the life and service of James P. O'Connor, who passed away on 13 March 2021.

Mr. O'Connor served on active duty in the US Navy from 1968-1970, including 14 months service aboard the USS Waldron (DD-699), an Allen M. Sumner-class destroyer.
Mr. O'Connor was honorably discharged on 25 September 1970 with the rating of Seaman Apprentice (E-2), and he earned the National Defense Service Medal.
(Note: James O'Connor is the brother of local Army Vietnam War hero and long-time Buffalo Veterans Treatment Court advocate John "Jack" O'Connor.)

IMPORTANT

  • * If you are not feeling well in any way, please do not attend this Mission.
  • ** ADDITIONAL MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Wearing a protective face covering of some kind is required...homemade face-mask, bandanna, etc. (Patriotic face coverings would be particularly appropriate) This will not only provide an extra layer of protection to ourselves and others, but will send the message that the PGR takes this crisis seriously and is performing this Mission responsibly.
Special Information: PGR will stand a brief flag line from 2:30-3:00 PM.
Funeral service is scheduled at 3:00 PM. PGR will present the Plaque at that time.
(Note: Interment with Military Honors is scheduled for Monday, 22 March 2021 at the WNY National Cemetery. However, the family requested that PGR be present for the funeral service.)
Please arrive on time with a clean 3x5 American or US Navy flag, and dress for the weather.
