About the Mission:

The family of David J. Bruce, US Army Vietnam Veteran, has requested Patriot Guard Riders to participate in his funeral services.

Mr. Bruce passed away 27 June, 2022 after a long illness. Mr. Bruce joined the US Army in 1967 and served two years, rising to the rank of Sergeant (E-5). His MOS was 11D40, Armor Reconnaissance Specialist, and he served in the First Cavalry, Fourth Infantry Division. He spent twelve months in Vietnam.  Mr. Bruce left active duty in July 1969 and entered the US Army Reserve, completing that obligation in 1973.

Mr. Bruce earned: National Defense Service Medal (Vietnam), Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Cold War Commemorative Medal, Honorable Discharge Commemorative Medal, Expert Marksman Badge (M-16), Sharpshooter Badge (M-14), Overseas Service Bar (two awards).

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Updated 8 March 2022

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: NYS Guidelines of 2 March 2022, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

Services for Mr. Bruce will immediately follow calling hours at 5:00pm.  PGR members will participate in rendering honors with the expected military honor guard during services. At this moment it is unknown if military honors will take place at the beginning or end of services.

PGR members will form a flag line for mourners and family departing Mr. Bruce's services.  There is no escort on this mission.  Please bring your clean 3'x5' US or Army flag.  Please come prepared for the weather - 80s and a chance of rain is forecast at present.  Please bring your own water as none will be provided.
