Claire "Speed" Guinnip, Veteran

ABOUT THE MISSION:

We have been requested to participate in Honoring Korean War Veteran and long-time Allegany County 1st Responder Claire "Speed" Guinnip of Scio (Allegany County), who passed away on April 16th. Mr. Guinnip served with the US Army from 1952-1954, including almost 14 months in Korea, where he was a Machine Gunner with Company E, 223rd Infantry. Mr. Guinnip was Honorably Discharged 2 December 1954 with the rank of Corporal. For his Service to our Nation, Cpl. Guinnip was awarded: National Defense Service Medal; Korean Service Medal w/Bronze Service Star; United Nations Service Medal - Korea; NYS Conspicuous Service Cross Medal. As a 1st Responder, Mr. Guinnip served over 50 years with the Scio Fire Department, including several years as Chief. In addition, he served 25 years as a Deputy Fire Coordinator (DC-3) with Allegany County Fire Services.

Special Instructions:
We will escort Mr. Guinnip and his family from the Funeral Home to Scio, a distance of approx. 18 miles.
There will be a brief stop in Friendship.
It is anticipated that there will be escorts from Law Enforcement and Fire Service.
A Memorial Service with Full Military Honors and Fire Service Honors will be held at the Scio Community Center,
adjacent to the Scio Fire Department. We will provide a Flag Line for the Memorial Service, and we are invited to
stay for the luncheon.
Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American Flag or US Army flag, and dress for the weather. Large bike flags for
the Escort are encouraged, but please make sure your flags are properly placed and securely attached.
Flags & Water:
Flags Will NOT Be Provided, Please Bring Your Own.
If you have large bike flags, please bring them.
Water WILL NOT be provided, please bring your own.
