About the Mission:  Patriot Guard Riders of NY has been requested to stand in honor of the exemplary military career of US Coast Guard Reserve Commander Daniel M. Gregorio, who passed away on 16 February 2022 at the age of 90.

Commander Gregorio served our nation during the period of 1951-1991. His first 4 years from 1951-1955 were as an active-duty Navy Corpsman assigned to a Marine Corps Special Ops unit in Korea. He then enlisted in the Naval Reserve stationed at Naval Air Station, Niagara Falls, and in 1962 enlisted in the US Coast Guard Reserve, serving during the Vietnam War. From 1983-1985 Commander Gregorio served as Commanding Officer for the USCG Reserve Unit in Erie PA, and he was the first Commanding Officer at USCG Reserve Niagara River, which was commissioned in 1988.  He served there until his retirement on 6 October 1991.

During his extensive military career, Commander Gregorio earned the following awards: Coast Guard Commendation Medal; Coast Guard Achievement Medal; Commandant's Letter of Commendation Ribbon; Navy Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon; Coast Guard Unit Commendation; Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation w/Operational Device; Coast Guard Bicentennial Unit Commendation Ribbon; Navy Good Conduct Medal; Coast Guard Reserve Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal w/2 Service Stars; Korean Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Korea defense Service Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/Hourglass Device; Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon; United Nations Korean Service Medal; United Nations Service Medal (Korea); Republic of Korea Korean War Service Medal; Coast Guard Expert Rifle Qualification Ribbon; and Coast Guard Sharpshooter Pistol Qualification Ribbon.

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: NYS Guidelines of 2 March 2022, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.

Special Information:  PGRNY member and proud retired US Coast Guard Veteran Don "Cheech" Hayes will lead this Mission in honor of his fellow Coastie. In addition, Commander Gregorio's son served in the USCG with Cheech's brother, and they participated in a Buffalo-Niagara Honor Flight together.

The PGR will provide a respectful flag line for arrival of the funeral director and the family.
