About the Mission:

The family of James Matthew Hourihan has requested Patriot Guard Rider participation in his funeral services.  James, 90, passed away on February 18, 2020.

Born in Massena, NY, James graduated from Brasher-Stockholm High School in 1946.  He served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955 as a truck driver, and was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal.  He was employed in the construction field after his discharge from the Army, and retired in 1986 from Germanetti and Ryan Construction Associates, Inc. after 25 years of employment with them.  James had lived in Potsdam since 1963. Prior to that time he was employed on the Niagara Mohawk Power Project.

James was a member of The Carpenters Union Local 747, Watertown, for over 50 years and the American Legion Post of Winthrop. He was also a member of the Palmer Sportsman Club and served as Town Councilman for several years in Potsdam, NY.

  • * ADDITIONAL MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Wearing a protective face covering of some kind is required...homemade facemask, bandanna, etc. (Patriotic face coverings would be particularly appropriate) This will not only provide an extra layer of protection to ourselves and others, but will send the message that the PGR takes this crisis seriously and is performing this Mission responsibly.
Special Information: Staging at the funeral home with a flag line for the dignified transfer.  An escort to St. Patrick's Cemetery, County Route 50, Brasher Falls, NY will follow, with KSU approximately 12:30 PM.  Please provide your own 3 x 5 American flag and water.
