Honor Mission

BG James H. Shaw (Ret.)

USAAF/NYARNG - WWII

Multi-City, New York - 12-07-18

ABOUT THE MISSION:

The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to stand for and honor the life and service of retired Brigadier General James H. Shaw. General Shaw, 94, passed on Monday, November 26, 2018.

A graduate of Nott Terrace High School, and a former employee of General Electric, General Shaw enlisted in the US Army Air Forces as a Private on 24 November 1942, and was trained as a Radio Operator - Gunner. He was assigned to the 7th Bomb Group, 9th Bomb Squadron and transferred overseas on 15 May, 1944. Based in India, then Sergeant Shaw participated in aerial combat missions aboard the B-24 Liberator "Vagabond Lady" in the China-Burma-India Theater, earning a Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism. He was honorably discharged on 10 October 1945 at the rank of Technical Sergeant and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal w/2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon w/4 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, 1 Overseas Service Bar, AAF Air Crew Member Badge, the AAF Technicians Badge w/ Radio Operator Bar and the WWII Lapel Pin.

After the War, he joined the New York Army National Guard in March of 1949 and earned his 2nd Lieutenant commission in June of 1951. Then Lt. Shaw served in the NYARNG until his retirement in 1979. By the end of his career, he had been promoted to Brigadier General, and had served as Commanding Officer of the 205th Support Group, the 105th Armored Infantry Battalion, and the 727th Maintenance Batallion in Schenectady, earning numerous awards and citations.

The Patriot Guard Riders are honored to have the opportunity to stand for and render dignity, honor and respect for the life and service of Brigadier General James H. Shaw, USAAF, WWII Veteran and "Greatest Generation" hero.

Staging at the church with a flag line for the arrival of the funeral cortege. Following 11:00 a.m. services, PGR members will make their own way to Saratoga National Cemetery for a scheduled 1:30 p.m. interment.

Flags will not be provided 
Large Bike Flags will NOT be needed.
Water WILL NOT be provided, please bring your own.

Staging at the cemetery for a scheduled 1:30 interment with full military honors. Members arriving early are asked to form a flag line at the front gate for the arrival of the procession. Please stage quietly and be aware of any services already in progress.
