As we are approaching the holiday season, it's an excellent time to remember our fallen and their ultimate sacrafice; another way to remember them is to sponsor a wreath.  Sponsoring a wreath through Wreaths Across America is easy.

The Patriot Guard Riders of Eastern New York have once again been granted Group Sponsorship status within the Wreaths Across America organization. So what does our Group Sponsorship status mean? Well for every two wreaths that are ordered - using our group codes – Wreaths Across America will donate another wreath - we get 3 for 2.

CAPT Robert F. Flacke

US Navy (Ret.)

Lake George, New York - 11-16 & 17-18

The family of Mr. Robert F. Flacke has requested Patriot Guard Rider participation in his military honors funeral services.  Mr. Flacke, who led both the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the Adirondack Park Agency died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018 at his longtime home in Lake George. He was 85.

Born in Albany, NY, Mr. Flacke enjoyed a storied football career at the College of the Holy Cross.  He was later drafted to play professional football by the NFL Detroit Lions, but instead became a submarine warfare expert in the US Navy.  Enlisting on 1 August 1955, he served as a Gunnery Officer aboard the USS Cromwell (DE-1014), a Dealey-class destroyer escort.  He was honorably discharged from active duty on 16 Juy 1958 and continued on, serving in the Naval Reserve for 30 years before retiring at the rank of Captain.

In addition to his military service, Mr. Flacke enjoyed a very impressive career within New York State government throughout his life.  Portions of the above narrative are contained in Mr. Flacke's obituary, available for viewing online at the McVeigh Funeral Home website here:!/Obituary
