C. Herbert Larson, Jr.

US Navy, WWII Veteran

PGR member Brett "Tiny" Larson has requested Patriot Guard Rider participation in the military honors funeral services for his father,  Mr. C. Herbert Larson, Jr..  Mr. Larson, 83, passed on September 20, 2011.

Herb joined the United States Navy on 14 November 1945, during the close of WWII.  After training, he was assigned to the USS Terror (CM-5), a fleet minelayer of the United States Navy, and the only minelayer of the fleet built specifically for minelaying during World War II. He was honorably discharged on 30 September 1947 at the rank of Seaman 2nd Class and a rating of Radarman.  For his service, he was awarded the WWII Victory Medal.

After the War, Herb obtained his BS in mathematics from the University of California in Pennsylvania and continued his education, obtaining masters of administration from the University of Pittsburgh.  He began a career as a Power and Fuel Analyst for US Steel, and went on to become a mathematics teacher, supervising principal and associate professor.

Ally Crowley-Duncan will be on hand to play the bagpipes in honor of Mr. Larson and his family.  PGR members will then provide escort to the cemetery for interment with full military honors.

Interment services scheduled for 11:00 a.m.  If a service is already in progress, riders are instructed to park at the Stratton Memorial area, and not to proceed to the staging area until completion of the service in progress.  Please do not gather at the Visitor Center.
