Memorial Mission

23rd Annual Flag Placement & Pick-up, Veteran

 Calverton, New York - 27 May 2017


ABOUT THE MISSION:

On Saturday May 27, at 9:30 am sharp, all volunteers gathered at their pre-assigned areas at Calverton National Cemetery will place U.S. Graveside Flags to recognize and honor our Military service men and women.

Special Instructions:
Each flag is to be placed firmly into the ground in the center on the Veterans name side of the upright stone. Please do not double flag a headstone.

At 11:00 am all volunteers and families are invited to the main assembly area to gather for a brief ceremony and enjoy some refreshments.

PGR NY Regions 8 and 9 will meet at Section 42. We are allowed to place flags on gravesites of those we know between 8 and 9 a.m.

This is a rain or shine event.

**Please take note of all the times..Its really important not to start placing or picking up flags until the time given..

Also there will be a lot of traffic going to the cemetery and leaving. We start at 9:30 am sharp, so I suggest you try to arrive early so that you don't miss out on placing flags.

Every participant will receive a 2017 special patch (which are given out on Flag Pick-up day)

Flag Pick-Up : Flag pick-up day will be on Saturday June 3rd 2017 9:30 am sharp (**please do not pick up flags earlier than 9:30 am) Roll 20 Flags to a bundle, secure with a rubber band, and place in the flag boxes. Broken flags should be placed into a plastic bag next to the Flag boxes.

Rain date for Flag Pickup will be on Sunday June 4th 2017 at 1:00 pm (**please do not pick up flags earlier than 1:00 pm) Postponements will be posted on this Boy Scout website.. www.btdistrict.org

Please see Nancy (Gee) Greenseich to sign the roster on both days. Nancy is the RC for this event. She will also have the 2017 patches on Flag Pick up Day. Any questions please contact her at 631-220-1004.
Suggested items to bring, screwdrivers to make hole in the ground, water, tarp (to place flags on when bundling them)

Flags Will Not Be Needed
Large Bike Flags will NOT be needed.
Water WILL NOT be provided, please bring your own.
