HOTH Mission

Albany Memorial Day Parade

 Albany, New York - 29 May 2017

The Patriot Guard Riders have once again been invited to participate in the Albany Memorial Day Parade on Monday, 5/29/17

This is always a very well attended event both in participants and just plain folks lining the street - especially if the weather is nice.

Primary Staging Time: 9:00 A.M.
Stage at corner of Central Ave and Partridge St.

While Central Ave. is open till about 9:00 am so early arrivals will park in the parking lot of Albany Tile and Marble (should be closed for the holiday). This parking lot is 50 yds West of Partridge St on the South side of Central. Once Central Ave is closed PGR will take up our spot on the North West side of Central and Partridge.

Once the street is shut down we usually line up in the middle of Central Ave. - to the left of the fire trucks.

Special Instructions:
Command Sergeant Major Robert Van Pelt:

Drafted into the Army in March of 1969, Bob enlisted for an additional year to be trained as a specialist in electronics. After training he served in-country in Phu Lam, Vietnam assigned to the First Signal Brigade. After his Vietnam service Bob was then assigned to the United States Army Strategic Communications Command, Camp Darby, Italy.

After returning to civilian life working at Con Ed, Bob joined the US Army's National Guard as a Multi-Channel Operator with the 187th Signal Brigade of the NY Army National Guard. He took various positions in civilian sector and military in Tennessee and returning to New York rejoining the 187th Signal Brigade in 1981. He progressed through the ranks to become the operations Sergeant Major of the Brigade in March of 1987. He was appointed to the position of Command Sergeant Major in Oct. 1991. Elevated to the State Command Sergeant Major position in June 2001. Bob retired from the NYARNG in June 2011.

The PGR can always be counted on to show up in big numbers and I hope this year is no exception. It's always gratifying to see and hear the reception we get from the public - and the reviewing stand gets a kick out of our somewhat noisy "salute".

So get to work on those duck walk inner thigh muscles and left hand grip. As always Flags,,,,,,,flags,,,,,,,,flags......

See you there..........
