Honor Mission

American Heroes
USN, USAF - WWII, Korea, Vietnam
MULTI-CITY, New York - 09 May 2018

ABOUT THE MISSION:

Riders & Patriots;

The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to stand tall and silent to render honors for a Not-Otherwise-Attended (NOA) military honors interment service for veterans Alvin K Nettleton and George Gordon Miller.

We know very little about these veterans:
George Gordon Miller was born on November 16, 1926 in Jamaica, NY. He was inducted into the US Navy during World War II and served from July 13, 1945 to July 3 1946. He again served in the Navy during the Korean War era from September 11, 1950 to September 13, 1954. He died on September 9, 2017

Alvin K. Nettleton was born on 2 February, 1932. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, from 18 February 1951 to 17 December 1965. He lived in Staten Island and died on 17 February 2018.
.
Thanks to Paul Schottenhamel, Commander, American Legion Post 104, Glendale, NY, and the Queens County American Legion Unclaimed Veteran Burial Committee for arranging the dignified military funeral that these two American heroes deserve.

Thanks, also, to the George Werst Funeral Home, for once again providing all services, at their own expense, associated with the funerals of unclaimed veterans.

Please come out and join us on this mission to give these two American heroes the proper send off that they deserve. Let's Stand for Those Who Stood for Us.

We will be joined on this mission by a documentary filmmaker and crew. Filmmaker David Doobinin was referred by Queens County Adjudant and American Legion Post 104, Glendale, Commander, Paul Schottenhamel. Some of you may have met him when he joined us previously. Interviews with Mr. Doobinin at a later date may be possible, but are not confirmed, or part of the mission at this time.

Special Instructions:

Stage at funeral home by 09:30M for briefing at 9:45AM. As these honorees have no family in attendance, we do not need to stand a welcoming flag line. We will, however, perform a dignified transfer from the chapel to the hearses, when a flag Line will be needed.

A short service in the chapel at the funeral home begins at 9:30 AM. Should you wish to attend, be sure to arrive earlier.

Escort will depart funeral home at 10 AM, and pick up a contingent of American Legion Riders and Patriot Guard Riders "on the fly" at the Long Island Welcome Center, 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746, just east of Exit 51. We will then continue on to Calverton National Cemetery.

If joining the escort, please be sure your flags are properly secured - we will be riding at highway speeds.
