ABOUT THE MISSION:

The Patriot Guard Riders have been requested to stand in honor of the military career of William N. Gillingham, II of Forestville, NY, who passed away on April 24, 2018. Mr. Gillingham served 12 years active duty in the US Marine Corps from 1962-1974, including 12 months in Vietnam, followed by 15 years duty from 1979-1994 in the US Army Reserves in Amherst and Niagara Falls.

Mr. Gillingham retired with a total of 27 years service to our nation. While in the USMC, he served with the 1st Marine Brigade, Fleet Marine Force and the 2nd Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force. His MOS's were Motor Vehicle Operator and Imagery Interpreter, and he received his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps on 14 May 1974. He earned the following awards: Good Conduct Medal w/2 stars; Combat Action Ribbon; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal w/4 stars; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Presidential Unit Citation; Vietnam Meritorious Unit Commendation w/Palm; Philippine Republic Presidential Unit Citation; Letter of Commendation.

Prayer service at the funeral home at 8:45 AM.
Dignified transfer and escort to St. Francis of Assisi Church, Athol Springs, for Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM. Followed by dignified transfer and escort to Holy Cross Cemetery, 2900 South Park Ave., Lackawanna for interment with military honors.
Please arrive on time with a clean 3x5 American flag, or USMC or US Army flag, dress for the weather, and ensure your large flags are securely attached.
We have two important missions in the Buffalo area on Saturday. Please do whatever you're able to participate, and to help honor both veterans and their families.
