HOTH Mission

Yellow Ribbon Day Ceremony

Halfmoon, New York - 10 Apr 2018

ABOUT THE MISSION:
The Patriot Guard Riders have once again been requested by the Yellow Ribbon Lady, Carol Hotailing to participate in the annual Yellow Ribbon Day ceremony. Yellow Ribbon Day seeks to promote unity and respect for brave military members who defend America’s liberty. Many patriotic individuals have devoted considerable time distributing yellow ribbons around the state to heighten awareness of, and express support for, U.S. service men and women.

Yellow ribbons first became a symbol of support during the Iran hostage crisis, when 52 Americans were held captive for 444 days from Nov. 4, 1979 to Jan. 20, 1981. Yellow ribbons were tied around trees as a symbol of national unity and remembrance. In addition, during the first Persian Gulf War, Americans again tied yellow ribbons around trees, and wore yellow ribbon lapel pins to demonstrate their solidarity and support for U.S. troops serving in harm’s way.
