Honor Mission

Anthony F. Vanacore, Veteran
Staten Island, New York - 09 Apr 2018


Anthony F Vanacore left Brooklyn Tech High School to join the war effort with the US Army, and was inducted on 4 June 1943. He was a Heavy Machine Gunner (MOS 605), while assigned to Company D, 157th Infantry, and served 1 year, 7 months and 8 days in the Mediterranean and European Theaters of Operation, including Naples-Foggia, Rhineland, Rome-Arno and Southern France. He was wounded during August of 1944, and spent time as a Prisoner of War in Stalag 11b Fallingbostel, Prussia. 

For his honorable service, he received the Purple Heart, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, the WWII Lapel Pin and earned the Combat Infantry Badge while assigned to the 137th Infantry Regiment. He was honorably discharged at the rank of PFC on 12 October 1945. Anthony Vanacore will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
