The Patriot Guard Riders are proud to report that for the first time since the inception of the Wreaths Across America program, on December 16, 2017, a Holiday Wreath was placed on every gravesite at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. The Patriot Guard Riders, along with several thousand community volunteers respectfully placed those wreaths, but much more importantly, took the time to honor and remember over 11,000 of our fallen soldiers, sailors and airmen resting in that place of honor.

We wish to sincerely thank everyone who made that goal a reality, particularly those who contributed via the PGRNY “Three For Two” program. Through that program, fully 100% of your contribution went toward the sponsorship of wreaths, with a total of almost 3,800 wreaths (over 1/3 of the total) provided….a truly outstanding effort.

Now that the bar has been set, we look forward to achieving that goal each and every year going forward, and we are confident that with your generous help and support, we can do just that. Once again, our heartfelt thanks for honoring and remembering our fallen heroes.

Randall E. Hagar
US Navy, WWII Veteran and
Law Enforcement Officer

The family of Mr. Randall E. Hagar has requested Patriot Guard Rider participation in his military honors funeral services.

Mr. Hagar, 92, of Niskayuna, passed away on Saturday November 4, 2017 at home. Born in Damarescotta Mills, Maine Randall graduated from Lincoln Academy in New Castle, ME at age 17. He joined the Maine State Guard Reserve and that same year he joined the United States Navy in Portland, ME on October 5, 1943. During his service, he was assigned to the USS Aucilla (AO-56), a Cimarron-class fleet oiler, and was involved in numerous engagements in the Pacific fleet. He earned the WW II Victory medal, American Theatre medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre medal and the Philippine Liberation Theatre medal. He was Honorably discharged as a Shipfitter 3rd Class.

After the war he served on fleet tankers for Esso and later at G.E. as steam fitter. He later entered the Schenectady Police force in 1958 as a patrolman, working his way up to a vice detective until his retirement in 1981. After his retirement, net continued to support the family business, Bell Hagar Antiques and Bell Hagar Fashions. Randall was a member of the Elk's and American Legion Post 1092.

The Patriot Guard Riders are proud to have the opportunity to stand for and render dignity, honor and respect for the life and service of Mr. Randall E. Hagar, "Greatest Generation" hero.
