The Patriot Guard Riders are proud to report that for the first time since the inception of the Wreaths Across America program, on December 16, 2017, a Holiday Wreath was placed on every gravesite at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. The Patriot Guard Riders, along with several thousand community volunteers respectfully placed those wreaths, but much more importantly, took the time to honor and remember over 11,000 of our fallen soldiers, sailors and airmen resting in that place of honor.

We wish to sincerely thank everyone who made that goal a reality, particularly those who contributed via the PGRNY “Three For Two” program. Through that program, fully 100% of your contribution went toward the sponsorship of wreaths, with a total of almost 3,800 wreaths (over 1/3 of the total) provided….a truly outstanding effort.

Now that the bar has been set, we look forward to achieving that goal each and every year going forward, and we are confident that with your generous help and support, we can do just that. Once again, our heartfelt thanks for honoring and remembering our fallen heroes.

Honor Mission

William A. Millette
US Army, WWII Veteran

ABOUT THE MISSION:

The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to participate in the military honors funeral services of Mr. William A. Millette.

Born in Oneonta, NY on August 8, 1925, Bill was raised in Watervliet and was a 1940 graduate of St. Brigid's School. He graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in Albany in 1944 and attended Siena College, IBM Electronic School and several commercial banking schools. Bill was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of World War II who enlisted on 8 March 1944 and served with the 10th Mountain Division in Italy as a machine gunner. For his service, Bill was awarded the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the WWII Victory Medal and Lapel Button. He was Honorably discharged on 24 April 1946 at the rank of PFC.

Bill was employed by the former State Bank of Albany, and later Norstar Bank for over 40 years retiring in 1988 as a vice president. He was a past distinguished president of the Latham Kiwanis Club, past president of the Latham Business & Professional Association, past president of the Watervliet Rotary, a Paul Harris Fellow, past All State Post Commander and All State Post Quartermaster of Watervliet VFW City Post #729, Post Adjutant of the Thomas B. Flynn American Legion Post #1035 of Watervliet and was president of the Upstate Chapter of the 10th Mountain Division Association. Bill dedicated his life to the Watervliet VFW Post #729 and was very proud of his association with the 10th Mountain Division based in Ft. Drum, N.Y. He was instrumental every year in the planning of the City of Watervliet Memorial Day Parade.

The Patriot Guard Riders are privileged to have the opportunity to stand and render dignity, honor and respect for the life and service of Mr. William A. Millette, proud "Greatest Generation" hero.
