The Patriot Guard Riders are proud to report that for the first time since the inception of the Wreaths Across America program, on December 16, 2017, a Holiday Wreath was placed on every gravesite at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. The Patriot Guard Riders, along with several thousand community volunteers respectfully placed those wreaths, but much more importantly, took the time to honor and remember over 11,000 of our fallen soldiers, sailors and airmen resting in that place of honor.

We wish to sincerely thank everyone who made that goal a reality, particularly those who contributed via the PGRNY “Three For Two” program. Through that program, fully 100% of your contribution went toward the sponsorship of wreaths, with a total of almost 3,800 wreaths (over 1/3 of the total) provided….a truly outstanding effort.

Now that the bar has been set, we look forward to achieving that goal each and every year going forward, and we are confident that with your generous help and support, we can do just that. Once again, our heartfelt thanks for honoring and remembering our fallen heroes.

Vincent S. Janenka, Veteran

ABOUT THE MISSION:

The family of Mr. Vincent Stephen Janenka has requested Patriot Guard presence at his military honors funeral services. Vincent, age 95, passed away in God’s peace on July 5, 2017.

Born in the old South End of Albany, Vincent later moved to Rensselaer and graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1939. He answered the call of his country after the outbreak of the 2nd World War, enlisting in the United States Navy. He served in the Pacific Theatre at Guadalcanal, the Solomon Islands, the Marshall Islands, and at Noumea, New Caledonia, as well as other locations. He achieved the rank of Petty officer 1st Class. For his service, he was awarded the US Navy Good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, WWII American Campaign Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal.

After the war, Vincent worked for the United States Postal Service as a clerk and supervisor, primarily at the Pine Station in Albany. Vincent was a near lifelong Parishioner of the Catholic Church in Rensselaer, and a life member of the Knights of Columbus, life member of the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The Patriot Guard Riders are proud to have the opportunity to stand for and render dignity, honor and respect for the life and service of "Greatest Generation" hero, Vincent S. Janenka.
