ABOUT THE MISSION:

We have been requested to stand in Honor of another World War II Hero. U.S. Navy Seabees Veteran Norman R. Hameister passed away on March 26th. Mr. Hameister served from 1942-1946 as an Electrician's Mate 2nd Class, with a specialty of Construction and Cargo Transport. He saw duty with the Navy in the Pacific Theater with the 9th Special Construction Battalion- including the Solomon Islands - often under enemy fire. During his service, Mr. Hameister had the experience of loading cargo on a PT boat skippered by future US President John F. Kennedy. He also met future US Supreme Court Justice Byron R. White while in the Pacific. Mr. Hameister was awarded the following for his Service to our Nation: Navy Commendation Medal; Navy Good Conduct Medal; Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 Battle Stars; American Campaign Medal; Solomon Islands Campaign Medal; WW-II Victory Medal. In addition to his Military Service, Mr. Hameister was very prominent in the Honor Flight Buffalo Program.
