The Patriot Guard Riders are proud to report that for the first time since the inception of the Wreaths Across America program, on December 16, 2017, a Holiday Wreath was placed on every gravesite at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. The Patriot Guard Riders, along with several thousand community volunteers respectfully placed those wreaths, but much more importantly, took the time to honor and remember over 11,000 of our fallen soldiers, sailors and airmen resting in that place of honor.

We wish to sincerely thank everyone who made that goal a reality, particularly those who contributed via the PGRNY “Three For Two” program. Through that program, fully 100% of your contribution went toward the sponsorship of wreaths, with a total of almost 3,800 wreaths (over 1/3 of the total) provided….a truly outstanding effort.

Now that the bar has been set, we look forward to achieving that goal each and every year going forward, and we are confident that with your generous help and support, we can do just that. Once again, our heartfelt thanks for honoring and remembering our fallen heroes.

COL. Russell A. Catalano, Retired

The family of Colonel (Ret.) Russell A. Catalano, US Army and Army National Guard veteran has requested Patriot Guard Rider participation in his military honors funeral services.

Russell A. Catalano of West Galway passed away on 18 February 2017, after a brief illness. Born in 1948, he was a long time resident of the Capital District. His obituary indicates that Russell enlisted in the New York Army National Guard as a Private (E1) in January, 1967, and retired after 41 years at the rank of Colonel (O6). For his service, he was awarded The Legion of Merit Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Reserves Components Achievement Medal (10th Award), the National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award) the Global War on Terror Service Medal, the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal (3rd Award), the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” Device, and the NYS Conspicuous Service Medal.

He was a member of several automobile clubs, served a treasurer of the Electric City GTO club and owned many classic cars which won awards at many car shows through out the years. Upon retirement he operated his own business restoring cars for others to the highest of standards. His enjoyment also included helping others offering advice on restoring or maintaining their own classic cars.

The Patriot Guard Riders are proud to be able to stand and demonstrate dignity, honor and respect for the life and service of Colonel Russell A. Catalano, USA/USANG (Ret.).
