He was a survivor of Iwo Jima and completed 18 invasions aboard the USS Humphreys (APD-12), a Clemson Class Destroyer. For his service, Sal was awarded the Bronze Star, US Navy Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 4 stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 stars. During his service, he attained the rank of Signalman 1st Class (SM1).
Sal was a World Champion Skeet Shooter, trained bird dogs, was a gifted artist and painter, and had a passion for the outdoors. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
