A Poem

April 9, 2009

Hi,   First I want to say thank you for all you do.  I have seen you in action at the wake of two fallen heroes in our area.    I sat outside the funeral home in my car for a while just observing at Lance Corporal Geary's wake.  And I wrote the following poem.  I wanted to share it with your group.

We have just lost another local hero also Lance Corporal Oleski.   I will put it below and attach it. And thank you again for your service to our service men and women.   Donna Mucks Forestport NY

For You and For Me

By

Donna Mucks

Many thoughts crossed my mind today, as I watched the line grow,

Like, why do I go to pay my respects, for someone I don’t even know?

It’s because, I simply can’t forget, that neither did he know me,

But he just gave his young, promising life, to help and keep me free.

He did it for you. He did it for me,

In the land of the brave, the home of the free.

And then I thought, of those still serving, and I said a silent prayer.

Please Dear Lord watch over them, and keep them in your care.

They do it for you, they do it for me.

In the land of the brave, the home of the free.

And then I saw the veteran’s with their flags and heads held high.

I thank you all from the bottom of my heart, for all you’ve sacrificed.

They did it for you, they did it for me.

In the land of the brave, the home of the free.
