Dear Bill,

We have just passed the birthday of our much-missed husband and father, Freddie Laing; and we are reminded to send this long-overdue letter.

The strong and dignified presence of the Patriot Guard Riders at the funeral of our loved one was both a comfort and an encouragement; and we have been wanting to say "Thank you" since that day in April.

During his declining days, Freddie often wore one or the other of his two favorite T-shirts. One bore the message "Proud to be a Veteran," the other "Freedom is Not Free." Somehow, the strong PGR presence at his funeral was a seal and a witness to his faithful service to his homeland -- not only during World War II, but also during the remainder of his life. This was certainly a great blessing to his family -- and most assuredly also to his hometown. Thank you.

Very truly yours,
Mrs. Margaret Laing and Daughters, Becky Laing and Phyllis Wilsey
Below is a special thank you to the Patriot Guard Riders of New York from General Martin E. Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff which was presented to State Captain Dave Kern along with the General's personal challenge coin.  Your dedication to the mission of supporting our men and women in uniform does not go unnoticed.
